2023 - 2026 SCPDIA Memorandum of Understanding: Article 9: Bilingual Pay
Article 9 Bilingual Pay
When a Department Head designates a position within the Bargaining Unit which requires bilingual skills on the average of at least 10 percent of the employee's work time, such a designated employee shall first demonstrate a language proficiency of job‑related terminology acceptable to the Department Head and the Human Resources Director. Use of bilingual skills shall include time spent translating, answering phone calls, performing research, speaking with or writing to clients in a language other than English.
The County shall pay the employee in a designated basic position a premium of one dollar and fifteen cents ($1.15) per hour in addition to the employee’s base hourly rate of pay.
Effective upon ratification and adoption of this agreement, the County shall pay the employee in a designated fluent position a premium of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per hour in addition to the employee’s base hourly rate of pay.
