Public Charge Training for Advocates and Service Providers on August 20, 2019 in San Bernardino

Public Charge Training Resource(PDF: 1.65 MB)
There are training resources available to help service providers and community-based organizations (CBOs) to discuss public charge with patients, clients and the community from the California Primary Care Association (CPCA).
As you may know, on August 14, 2019 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a Final Rule regarding public charge ground of inadmissibility under section 212(a)(4) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This rule marks a change in Federal policy and may incite fear in the immigrant community, including Sonoma County.
Based on this new rule, some immigrants may be feeling apprehensive to enroll or continue to receive any public assistance benefits they qualify to receive. These changes are new for service providers as well as clients and to help dispel any misinformation regarding public charge, the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) has developed training modules for advocates and service providers.
Additionally, the CPCA Protecting Access to Public Benefits Workgroup will also be hosting trainings throughout the state for CBOs, county staff, and service providers. The hope is that advocates and providers will attend the training and have the materials required to then train their colleagues and communities.
You can find more information on these trainings in the attached brochure or by visiting CPCA’s Immigration Resource Page. The next training will be offered on August 20, 2019 in San Bernardino. To register please click here.
CPCA also willing to help provide trainings to interested organizations. If you are interested in learning more please contact Elizabeth Oseguera by email at loseguera@cpca.org.
Our CBOs are a vital part of the Department of Health Services’ system of care and we are grateful to have you all providing a vast array of services in the community. Therefore, we cannot overstate the importance of these trainings and encourage you all to help us spread the word about this great resource.
