Beginning December 1, 2024 CARE Court will be available in Sonoma County.
CARE Court is a new civil court process established to provide behavioral health services while utilizing the courts to provide increased structure and support for individuals with severe mental illness. In collaboration with County and community partners, CARE Court creates a new pathway to deliver services to individuals who are diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum or other psychotic disorders. Through a voluntary CARE Agreement or CARE Plan, individuals will be connected to critical behavioral health services, substance use treatment, housing and support, while preserving self-determination to the greatest extent possible. The goal of CARE Court is to intervene and divert individuals from more restrictive settings, such as hospitalizations, incarcerations and conservatorship.
