Development underway for permanent supportive housing project at George’s Hideaway

Demolition has begun at George’s Hideaway, the former tavern and restaurant in west Sonoma County, making way for permanent supportive housing. The project at George’s Hideaway, located along Highway 116 in Guerneville, involves the creation of 21 units of permanent supportive housing and a navigation center. Read full story

Memorial to recognize 60 lives lost in Sonoma County’s unhoused community

On Dec. 20, one day before National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, HomeFirst and Sonoma County Department of Health Services will host a memorial to honor individuals who lost their lives over the last year while living without housing in Sonoma County. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Arlene Francis Center, 99 6th St., Santa Rosa. The space is being provided by FS Global, and Community Foundation Sonoma County granted the needed funding to host the memorial. Read full story

2025 Sonoma Homeless Point-in-Time Count Volunteer Registration Now Open!

We are looking for volunteers to help with this year’s count! Friday, January 31, 2025 is the 2025 Sonoma Point-in-Time Count for all populations of person’s experiencing homelessness. The Count is a requirement for receiving federal homeless assistance funds and provides critical data used to understand homelessness locally and to support strategic decisions about our programs. RFP Environmental Site Remediation Work Plan

The Department of Health Services is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to develop a comprehensive Site Remediation Work Plan for property located in Sonoma County. The purpose of a work plan is to address environmental contamination issues and ensure the safe and sustainable redevelopment of the site. The current project is known as the Liberty Road Property (APN 021-121-016), located at 1196, 1150, 1122 and 1080 Liberty Road in Petaluma. The primary objective of this project is to develop a detailed Site Remediation Work Plan that outlines the steps and methodologies required to remediate environmental contamination on the project site. Sonoma County Health Officer issues order requiring health care facility staff to wear masks

Given the rising risk of respiratory virus-related illnesses, such as COVID and flu, Sonoma County’s Interim Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith has issued an order requiring health care personnel to mask when in patient care areas. The health order will be in effect throughout the remaining respiratory virus season, from Nov. 18 through April 30. Read full story

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

On Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sonoma County law enforcement agencies and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will host DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at law enforcement agencies in the cities of Cotati, Cloverdale, Healdsburg, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, and Town of Windsor. DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid and liquid forms of prescription drugs from Sonoma County residents. Vape pens and other e-cigarette devices will also be collected only after the batteries are removed from the devices. Read full story
