Official ballot drop boxThe standard deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Nov. 5 General Election is Oct. 21, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Deva Marie Proto reminded residents today. However, eligible voters who miss this deadline still have the option to “conditionally register and vote” in person through Election Day at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office or at any Vote Center.

For a list and map of all Vote Centers and Official Ballot Drop Boxes, including addresses and dates/times they will be open, visit the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters homepage and click on List/Map of Drop Boxes and Vote Centers link under the “November 5, 2024, General Election” heading.

To be eligible to register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older on Election Day, and not in prison for the conviction of a felony. You can check to see if you are registered using the California Secretary of State’s My Voter Status lookup tool or by calling our office. If your name or residence address is different from how you are currently registered, you should re-register.

There are two primary ways to register to vote:

  1. Fill out and submit the California Secretary of State’s Online Voter Registration form by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 21.
  2. Obtain a paper registration form at any post office or public library in Sonoma County (or request a form be mailed to you) and drop it off at the Registrar of Voters Office no later than Oct. 21 (or send it in the mail with a postmark of Oct. 21 or earlier).

The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office is located at 435 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa. For the rest of October and all of November, the office will be open each weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding County holidays). In addition, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the two weekends prior to Election Day (Oct. 26-27, Nov. 2-3). Finally, the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day (Nov. 5).
