For Immediate Release
Sonoma County achieves record-high net assessment roll of more than $127 billion
SANTA ROSA, CA | July 01, 2025
Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor Deva Marie Proto announced today that the county’s net assessment roll has reached an all-time high of $127,016,463,045. This marks a 5.44 percent increase compared to last year’s assessment roll, reflecting the value of all real and business property in Sonoma County as of Jan. 1. The 2025-26 assessment roll has been officially delivered to the Sonoma County Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector.
Property tax revenue generated by the assessment roll provides funds to vital institutions, such as public K-12 schools, community colleges, counties, cities, as well as public benefits and services. Approximately 50 percent of local property tax revenue goes toward public education.
Property owners who feel their assessed value is higher than the market value as of Jan. 1 are encouraged to file an Application of Change Assessment with the Clerk of the Board by Nov. 30.
The Assessor’s office has made significant progress in addressing assessment backlogs thanks to resources provided by the Sonoma County supervisors, technology efficiencies implemented and the hard work of County employees within the Assessor’s Office. While the Assessor’s Office is still working on a backlog from multiple disasters, the global pandemic and implementation of Proposition 19, property owners will see assessments in the coming years completed in a timely fashion.
The 2025-26 assessed value notices are posted on the Assessor’s website at https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/assessor. For any questions regarding property tax assessments, please contact the Assessor’s office at (707) 565-1888.
