County to begin mailing ballots for June election

Vote-by-mail ballots for the June 7, 2022 statewide Primary Election will start going out in the mail on Monday, May 9, to all active, registered voters in Sonoma County, the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters announced today. Voters should expect their vote-by-mail ballots to arrive within five to 10 days after that.
Also beginning on Monday, any voter who cannot or prefers not to wait to receive their ballot in the mail may pick one up at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office. A voter may also authorize somebody else to pick up their vote-by-mail ballot for them with a signed note. Any voter who has not received their vote-by-mail ballot by May 19 (or needs a replacement ballot) may call the Registrar of Voters Office and request a second one through May 31.
There are three main ways voters may return their vote-by-mail ballots:
- By mail. In order to count, they must be postmarked on or before Election Day, June 7 and received at the Registrar of Voters Office by June 14. No postage is required.
- Drop them off at one of 21 official ballot drop boxes throughout the county. Each drop box will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week beginning May 10 before closing at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
- Bring them to one of 31 voting locations (now called vote centers instead of polling places).

In addition, voters who want to track their ballots by email, text or phone may sign up to do so at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov.
The June 7 election will be the first in Sonoma County to be conducted under the Voter’s Choice Act election model. Named after the law on which it is based, the objective of this model is to give voters more flexibility regarding how, when and where to cast their ballots.
Vote centers are open not only on Election Day itself, but multiple days prior to Election Day, and voters may obtain a ballot and vote at any vote center in the county; they are not assigned to a specific location.

The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except Memorial Day, when the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Election Day, June 7, when the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.).
