County mailing voter information guides for June primary election

The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office, announced today that voter information guides for the upcoming June 7, 2022, statewide direct primary election, will begin going out in the mail today to all active, registered voters in Sonoma County. Those voters who have previously opted out of receiving such mailings may go to Get Your County Voter Information Guide Online: Opt In/Out form to sign up for this service. 

Note that county voter information guides only contain information about local candidates and measures. Information about statewide candidates and measures is contained in the state’s voter information guide, which is mailed separately by the Secretary of State’s Office and can be viewed online at Official Voter Information Guide. 

Delivery of the county voter information guides takes longer than regular first-class mail. Voters who have not received their voter information guide by May 13 can contact the Registrar of Voters Office to ensure their current mailing address is on file and, if necessary, be sent a replacement. Voters who have opted out of receiving paper copies of the county voter information guide can view it online by visiting the Registrar of Voters homepage and clicking on the County Voter Information Guide link under the Upcoming Elections heading.  

Regardless of whether a voter has signed up to vote by mail, ballots will be mailed to all active, registered voters in the county starting on May 9, in accordance with Assembly Bill 37, which was signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom last fall. However, voters still have the option of voting in person at vote centers. Voters should expect to receive their ballots in the mail within five to ten days. Also beginning May 9, voters may opt to pick up a ballot at the Registrar of Voters Office or have somebody else pick one up on their behalf with a signed note. 

The June 7 election, will be the first countywide election in Sonoma County to be conducted under the Voter’s Choice Act election model. Named after the law on which it is based, the objective of this model is to give voters more flexibility regarding when, where, and how to cast their ballots. In-person voting will now be offered at vote centers instead of traditional polling places. Vote centers offer two major advantages over polling places: 

1. They are open multiple days, whereas polling places were only open on Election Day itself. 
2. A voter may obtain the correct ballot type and cast their vote at any vote center in the county; they are not assigned to a specific location.
