County Government Center

The County of Sonoma provides critical services to residents, businesses, and visitors. Twenty-six departments safeguard our health and safety, manage our jails, parks, hospitals, transportation systems, and sanitation. We care for families, the homeless, the vulnerable, agriculture and animals from pets to livestock, our environment and more. 

Like many post-WWII-era systems and structures, our facilities have far outlived their useful lives and impede our work and effectiveness. We must build a place to meet the rapidly evolving needs of our community.

Today's challenges

		The County is facing urgent challenges with its current facilities. We have outgrown 170+ aging buildings  - at a cost of almost $10 million per year to rent more space.
		Many County buildings are not up to modern standards for accessibility, efficiency and seismic safety.
		In 2018, the County government center's deferred maintenance backlog was $258 million - a cost that goes up every year.
