Projects and Policy Analysis

Strategic Initiatives manages and supports a wide range of initiatives that address some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing the County. In addition to overseeing ongoing initiatives such as climate action and resiliency, strategic grants and programs to reduce pathogen pollution in waterways, Strategic Initiatives leads policy analysis on emerging topics such as fire services consolidation, tenant protection, and policies that strengthen the County’s commitment to fair labor for contractors. 

Recent Policy Highlights 

• Fire Services consolidation to improve efficiency and effectiveness in fire service provision. 

• Board of Supervisors approves agreement requiring union wages, benefits for major County construction and maintenance contracts 

• Sonoma County Board of Supervisors reduces fees for affordable housing projects 

• Obligations for landlords and new rights to tenants for rental properties in the unincorporated area of Sonoma County 

• Grant funding for the Secure Families Collaborative to support immigrant communities
