Sonoma County to host Induction Cooking Expo
The County of Sonoma’s Climate Action and Resiliency Division is set to host an Induction Cooking Expo in Santa Rosa on Saturday, Sept. 24 to highlight the environmental benefits of using electromagnetism to heat pots and pans. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Premiere Bath and Kitchen located at 3201 Cleveland Ave. Read full story
Board of Supervisors approve community engagement and language access agreements
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today took the first steps in developing language access and community engagement plans to ensure broader involvement with county government by members of all communities. Using $710,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, the Board on Tuesday approved agreements with two consultants to work with the county’s Office of Equity in developing a language access plan, a community engagement plan, and policy recommendations for all county departments. Supervisors, County Clerk honor democracy on National Voter Registration Day
Civic-minded people and organizations all across the United States will be taking part in National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Deva Marie Proto, County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters, invites Sonoma County residents to join the Registrar of Voters Office and the Board of Supervisors in this nonpartisan effort to highlight the importance of participating in democracy by encouraging all eligible Sonoma County residents to register to vote. County of Sonoma awarded up to $10 million by USDA for multi-agency climate project
The Natural Resources Conservation Service, within the U.S. Department of Agriculture, announced its selection of the County of Sonoma for a tentative award through the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities funding opportunity. The project, titled Sonoma Marin Ag and County Climate Coalition, represents a large partnership effort across multiple organizations from both Sonoma and Marin counties, with the County of Sonoma acting as the lead entity. Board of Supervisors approves $360,000 contract for wildfire structural hardening assessments
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors voted today to approve a $361,034 contract with Wildfire Defense Works to provide structural hardening assessments in pre-identified project locations throughout the county. Wildfire Defense Works will perform between 250 to 1,000 structural hardening assessments for Permit Sonoma’s Wildfire Adapted program. The contract is a portion of the $2.6 million in grant funding received by the county as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Read full story
Planning Commission to hold hearing on draft Environmental Impact Report for Sonoma Developmental Center
The Sonoma County Planning Commission will hold a hearing and seek public feedback on the draft Environmental Impact Report and draft specific plan for the Sonoma Developmental Center on Sept. 15, 2022 at 1 p.m. The draft Environmental Impact Report evaluated a proposed specific plan for the Sonoma Developmental Center site, two lower density alternatives, and two scenarios where the county doesn’t proceed with a project in 16 key areas of the property. The County of Sonoma, Climate Action and Resiliency Division is pleased to announce the latest homeowner workshops in an on-going series for those interested in learning more about the benefits of making improvements that will help make your home more resilient. The workshops cover a range of topics including evaluating energy use, making a project plan, funding your projects, solar photovoltaics and battery storage, electrification, wildfire safety, indoor air quality, and understanding heat pumps for heating and cooling.
