County of Sonoma Health officials issue heat alert

The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services has issued a Heat Alert in response to the National Weather Service’s Heat Advisory for parts of the county from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 10. The heat alert applies to inland areas of Sonoma County, where high temperatures are forecast in the high 90s and low 100s. The heat is expected to arrive on Thursday and last through Saturday, with Friday being the hottest day. Healdsburg is expected to reach a high of 100 degrees on Friday, and Santa Rosa is forecast to reach 99 degrees. Read full story

The Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps is accepting applications for its summer employment program, which gives 18- to 24-year-olds opportunities to learn new skills, acquire work experience and earn money while working with crews on local environmental and conservation projects.  Read full story

Man Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Assault with A Deadly Weapon and Violation of Court Order

Defendant Dennis Marrow, 26 years old of Sonoma County, was sentenced June 8, 2022 by the Honorable Christopher Honigsberg to serve 7 years in state prison after pleading no contest to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and violating a court order. County seeks public input as Koi Tribe prepares environmental assessment for casino site

The County of Sonoma is seeking the public’s input to help frame its response to plans by the Koi Nation of Northern California for a Tribal Environmental Impact Report concerning the proposed Koi Nation Shiloh Resort and Casino Project off Shiloh Road near Windsor. The response is to a Notice of Preparation that the Koi Nation and U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs released on May 27. Read full story

Healdsburg Man Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Discharging Firearm with Gross Negligence

Defendant Robert Marroquin, 61 years old of Healdsburg, was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Christopher Honigsberg to serve 6 years in state prison after pleading “no contest” in March of this year to one felony count of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and admitting a prior “strike” offense. Advanced in-person voting to expand for June election

Beginning this Saturday, registered voters in Sonoma County who have not already voted in the June 7 statewide direct primary election, may vote in advance of Election Day in person at one of 31 vote centers located throughout the county. In-person voting has been available since May 28 at seven vote centers, but an additional 24 vote centers will be open from June 4 to Election Day. All vote centers will be open June 4 to June 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Election Day, June 7, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Read full story

Healdsburg Man Sentenced to 8 Years and 4 Months in State Prison for Fatal Drunk Driving Collision

Defendant Ulises Castrejon Valdez, 28 years old of Healdsburg, was sentenced today by the Honorable Mark Urioste to serve eight years and four months in state prison after pleading “no contest” in March of this year to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving impaired causing great bodily injury.
