Sonoma County to host third job and resource fair for homeless on March 20 in Santa Rosa
Sonoma County Job Link and community partners will host the county’s third job and resource fair for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless on March 20 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. The free event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Garrett Building at the northeast corner of the fairgrounds, located at 1450 Bennett Valley Road in Santa Rosa. Read full story
Board of Supervisors set to discuss declaring racism as a public health crisis
Preparing to join hundreds of cities and counties across the United States, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors at its March 12 meeting will consider adopting a resolution declaring racism as a public health crisis. Naming racism as a health crisis and committing to eliminate it within Sonoma County is considered another important step on the path to equity. Read full story
Spill of partially treated wastewater at Russian River County Sanitation District Treatment Plant
Beginning late in the evening of Friday, March 1 into the early morning of Saturday, March 2, the Russian River County Sanitation District Treatment Plant experienced a spill of secondary treated wastewater. The cause of the spill is believed to be related to the weekend storm event. Read full story

Prison Inmate Who Was Convicted Of “Third Strike” For Residential Burglary Denied Parole
Inmate Billy Ray Shanee Maldonado, of San Antonio, Texas, was denied parole today by the California State Board of Parole Hearings following a morning hearing held at the Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County. The Parole Board found that Maldonado continued to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety and denied parole for an additional three years. Maldonado chose not to attend the hearing. Vamos a Nadar celebrates 20 years of water safety education
Designed to reduce drowning deaths in along the Russian River, Vamos a Nadar has reached more than 3,000 young people in Sonoma County since launching in 2004. The 2024 schedule is now available and parents can register at SoCoParks.org/Nadar. Read full story

Sonoma County health officials issue cold weather warning
The County of Sonoma today issued a cold weather warning in response to the National Weather Service frost advisory from midnight to 10 a.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service is also predicting sub-freezing wind chill temperatures from Sunday into early Monday. Officials recommend that residents limit time outdoors, as serious medical conditions including hypothermia and frostbite can develop with prolonged cold weather exposure. Read full story
