District 1 October 2023 Short Newsletter
This fall, we will finally be opening a Regional County Service Center in the Springs area of Sonoma. The goal of the center, which many have started calling the "hub," is to make county services that are largely centralized in Santa Rosa more accessible to residents of the Valley. Last week, I hosted a bilingual listening session to gather input from the community on what services they would like to see at the center. Read full story

Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership wins WaterSense Partner of the Year, Sustained Excellence awards
The Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership earned multiple awards today from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its work promoting the EPA WaterSense program and water efficiency in 2022. Read full story
More than 1,700 individuals received financial assistance during January storms, county report shows
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday received an update on the emergency financial assistance support provided during the 2023 winter storms. A total of $812,853 was distributed from the Immediate Needs Fund to those impacted most by the winter storms. Read full story
Board of Supervisors to hold TRUTH Act forum to review Sheriff’s Office data on ICE access
Sonoma County residents are invited to participate in a community forum to learn about the access to incarcerated persons and the information that the Sheriff’s Office provides to federal immigration authorities. This public meeting is required under a state law that went into effect in 2017. Read full story
Board of Supervisors approves plan for electric bus charging facility at Sonoma County Transit
The Board of Supervisors today approved plans for the construction of a 19-space electric bus charging facility at Sonoma County Transit located on West Robles Avenue in Santa Rosa. The new facility will provide charging for 30-foot, 35-foot, and 40-foot battery-electric transit buses in compliance with state regulations that require transit operators to transition their fleets to zero-emission vehicles by 2040. Sonoma County launching $27 million program to expand local mental health services for foster youth
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved the creation of a three-year pilot program to expand local mental health services for foster youth who are often sent to other counties for placement in intensive residential treatment programs. Read full story

Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to limit verbal public comments through end of year
The County of Sonoma will allow public comments to be made only in person or via email for Board of Supervisors meetings, as well as meetings for the Board of Directors for Sonoma Water and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District through the end of 2023. Read full story
